Why do I have to pay?
In AA, a conference or convention is an important opportunity to share the AA experience in a broad way. There are many AA conferences held around the world. One of the most common misconceptions of these gatherings is that they are AA meetings, and since “There are no dues or fees for AA membership…” there should be no fees to attend. Conventions and conferences are special events, not regular meetings. Conventions require months of planning, preparation, and money to present.
Registration fees, banquet tickets and donations make this conference self-supporting. No AA funds are used to pay for this event. Expenses include meeting rooms, convention center facilities, food and beverages, printing, postage, supplies and many other costs. Registration fee and banquet prices are kept as low as possible to meet our financial goal of breaking even. Our contractual commitments to the hotel require a guaranteed minimum number of hotel rooms and banquet sales. To achieve this, we must meet our banquet and room night commitments. Our financial goal is to break even – any surplus revenue will be dedicated to a conference prudent reserve and / or distributed to AA entities; therefore we ask your help in meeting this goal. We hope you agree the overall cost is nominal compared to the weekend’s worth of fellowship, fun, entertainment and recovery you will experience.
If for any reason you cannot make the conference and decide to donate your registration to the scholarship fund we would be more than happy to accept your donation.
The Capital of Texas Conference strives to assure that this experience is available to any alcoholic / al-anon that wishes to attend no matter what their financial standing may be. We ask that you consider a scholarship donation amount of your choice during the registration process. Scholarships are distributed at the conference only – no advanced scholarship dedications.
